WW II veteran worked for General Foods 


    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Former Oakwood resident Paul Yagos, 92, a World War II veteran, died Monday in Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, N.J.

    Mr. Yagos was born in Manhattan and moved to Oakwood as a young man. He moved to Whiting, N.J., in 1982 and settled in Jackson, N.J., in 2006.

    Mr. Yagos served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed throughout the United States. After the war, he worked for General Foods Corp. in White Plains for 25 years before retiring in 1982.

    He was a member of the American Legion Post in Whiting.

    Mr. Yagos was an avid baseball fan.

    His son, Stephen P., died in 2004.

    Surviving Mr. Yagos are his wife of 63 years, the former Betty Altenburg; a son, Donald J.; a daughter, Linda S. Goltz; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
